If I buy a Kindle from an Australlian store rather than online can I use it in either Amazon US or Amazon UK?

I am getting a Kindle for Christmas and we are ordering it now. The nearest Dick Smith also has the model I want. If I buy a Kindle from Dick Smith - can I use any Amazon online store or will I be locked into using a particular country's store (which is what I have found with iTunes). The Amazon US site says it does not have all the Kindle titles available at that site. If I have to use only one site and I get a choice I would much prefer the UK site - because is likely to have the obscure British titles that I would want. My concern is if I buy from Dick Smith I will be locked into the US store.

In fact if I order it online - can I use it in any Amazon store?

If you move to that country, yes.

If you are going to stay in Australia, you need to use the store available for your region.

It has nothing to do with where you buy the reader, but where you are when you sign up for the store, becasue, like the iTunes store, eBook stores are also regionally limeted based on copyright market agreements.
