Momentum and Forces question?

I understand that impulse momentum theorem says the a small force acting over a longer time will produce the same change in momentum as a large force acting over a small time. An example, my textbook gave was a person who lands on a trampoline experiences a smaller force since the trampoline gives way and allows the time to extend. What i don't understand is that the person is always going to have the same mass and if the velocity is the same that aren't they going to the experience the same force whether they land on the trampoline or the ground? Isn't that what f=ma means? Is the force just spread out over the extended time or what? Please help explain this to me.

Thanks!

U are correct in relating the situation to "F = ma".

But consider that "a" is just a change in velocity divided by time.

Even though change in velocity is the same for both cases, the time is not.

U've already realized in the trampoline case, the "time to stop" vertically is longer.

So that would reduce the acceleration = "a" during the stop.

The "a" is negative & called deceleration, but its size = ma which means the force will be less in the case of stopping on the trampoline compared to the ground.

No, momentum isn't a stress. A stress, as defined by Newtonian regulation is a given mass prolonged by a given acceleration. An occasion of a stress often is the stress by way of acceleration of gravity and your physique. because of this stress, you finally end up being pulled in direction of the midsection of the earth. Momentum on the different hand is a given mass prolonged by a given speed. this would additionally be mentioned as Impulse in Newtonian regulation. An occasion of such would be a moving motor vehicle; on the line your motor vehicle would have a speed of 60 meters consistent with 2d and would weight 10 kilograms. The momentum of the motor vehicle is then 600 kg*m/s. Momentum can be transferred, consisting of in a motor vehicle twist of fate. the least complicated way concept, to distinguish between the two is the instruments of length. A stress is measured as a Newton interior the SI device and a Pound interior the present US device. Momentum on the different hand has no good designation for a unit of degree, yet is asserted the two as a newton*meter (SI) or a kilogram*meters consistent with 2d (SI) and would additionally be mentioned as a pound*foot interior the U. S. device of length.
