Some questions from the Christmas Dinner Table?

Three questions came up during the Christmas turkey dinner yesterday evening.

1) Why is plum pudding called that, when there are no plums in it?

2) Why is mincemeat pie called that, when there is no mincemeat in it?

3) What is Mrs. Clause's name, given and maiden?

Thanks in advance.

A long time ago, before either of us were born, the word "plum" was used for raisins - which are found in plum pudding ... only properly served with hard sauce (go ahead and snicker, and then try it!)

Mincemeat actually did also contain meat - my great grandmother used to put some ground up beef in it as well as lard - and used lard in the pie crust. It's a wonder we didn't all explode... but it was rich and lovely and something you never forget.

Mrs. Claus? Mary, of course - nee Christmas!

I'm not much of a help. Sorry.
