Is Rossi the father's name or the mother's maiden name? If mother was Italian then most likely the child was adopted through a Catholic church program. Back in that time frame they had "unwed mother" homes, places young women went away to live during their pregnancy and gave birth and the child put up for adoption.

Were parents married? What country? State? County?

Adoption records of that time were sealed by the court, what today is called a closed adoption. It takes a court order to access them and only the adoptee can request it. Look for a "adoption registry" in the state the adoption took place.

as mentioned above, you will have to use boards where you can post OR look for someone posting that fits your situation.

Obviously, even if a "list" existed of all Rossi families, who relinquished a child...you individually would have no authority to simply go through such a list and have access to other people's personal info.

Each state has its own laws relating to when or how adoptees can find info from that state. Of course, your father would be the one who would have to initiate any action.

Your best shot is probably to sign up on several of the boards that seek to reunite adoptees and their birth families. I don't believe there are any publicly available lists with this type of information. Check CyndisList - Adoption for discussion groups, registries for both adoptees and birth families and numerous other resources.

Your grandfather was born in France and your grandmother was born in Italy? Where did they have the baby? Have you tried facebook? You can also put this question in the adoption section for more information.
