Auditioning for acting roles when you appear 15+ years younger than your age?

Although I'm 40, I'm consistantly accused of lying because I appear 25. I have no wrinkes at all, plump skin (youthful, not gaunt or saggy like most 40 y.o.) and am as fit as I was in high school, my father also was told he looked 15-20 yrs younger so its a lucky genetic thing. I obviously won't get roles for 40 year old if no one in life beleives my age. If I apply for roles in the age I appear, will casting directors be upset that my resume says 40 but my headshot and actual likeness appears in my mid 20s? Do you audition for what you look like, not what you are?

    Hi,

Most casting directors audition people who look the age of the character that they are casting for. In your case, since you said that you look 25 when you're really 40, it's better to audition for characters who are 25 or somewhere around that age then you will have more chance of getting the role because of this. I think Casting Directors wont get mad because you're 40 but you look way younger. Just explain the genetics and all of that & I'm sure they will belive you.

Generally, It is better to audition for what you look like. My friend, Anna, she's the same age as me (15) but she was casted in a short film as a 20 year old because she can look like an actual 20 year old. :)

I hope this helped, & best of luck to you!! :D

I also look over a decade younger than I am. I haven't had any problems with auditions or getting cast, but I also don't list my age on my resume. There's actually no reason to list your age anywhere on your resume. When you get hired and they need you to fill out tax forms and such, that's when you'll include your birth date, but other than that, there's no reason to.

Some directors/casting directors may see your age listed on your resume and not call you in for roles you're right for, because they'll have preconceived notions of what 40 years old means. They may think your headshot is old or touched up. Who knows? If you leave your age off, they will go by your picture and resume, as well as your audition rather than having a number get in the way of their decision.

  • Make sure that your resume states your playing age, and include several natural photographs to prove the point.

I audition for what I look like :)

for sure - i grow to be forged as a 12-3 hundred and sixty 5 days-previous whilst i grow to be 18. in case you do no longer seem particularly that youthful, they are in a position to artwork wonders with somewhat makeup, and the director will assist you get the age down alongside the way. extremely, nonetheless, pass to the mall and seem on the 15-3 hundred and sixty 5 days-olds - a number of them do no longer seem any youthful than you do, i might guess. it extremely is purely a 4 3 hundred and sixty 5 days distinction, you will desire to be effective! :)

Well I say, you are quite young!

Yes, it is sad that you cant audition for that role.

And yes, they mostly see you on how you look.

But, it also depends the role you play in. Like, if there is a family who can live forever. You could play as the mother.

But, it always depends on how you look.

    But I say.. Good luck!!

Shirley Henderson (a.k.a. Moaning Myrtle in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) was 37 when she played a Hogwarts student, so it's whatever people can see you being

You never put your actual age on your resume once you're over 18. You only put the age range that you play.

  • If you can act I don't think it matters!
