Sounds like a good idea to me. If we had leadership with ingenuity there wouldn't even be a question. It would already be happening!

Gus, after last years record-setting drought some people have proposed that instead of an oil pipeline we build a water pipeline from Canada to the South, our aquifers are getting low due to irrigation, and even in my city the local lake is so low we are dependent on water wells and buying water from other cities during peak demand. I don't know what that oil pipeline will be used for, perhaps oil will be sold to China since they already have ships coming through the Panama Canal bringing goods & food to Texas and the rest of the Gulf Coast. I think the whole project should be made clear to the public.

Have you ever seen a map of North America with all the oil and gas pipelines? It looks to me as if we already have enough. I think they could probably use the existing lines with perhaps a few additions or trunks.

We sure as hell don't need it as it's being proposed. Too much environmental damage. There is no good reason why these things can't follow highway right of ways. I'm not sure we really need it anyway. Refined fuel has been trucked to most of the nation for the last 100 years, why do we need to destroy what little wilderness we have left? We need to save something for future generations. Use the money to develop solar, and tidal power. There's a helluva lot of truck drivers out there that need work.

Have you seen those docos of major infrastructure such as dams - Hoover dam for instance - being built?

I think that each country needs to do major work and planning to keep the economy on track and build something really worthwhile for the future.

Just as long as it isn't a white elephant.

I'm hoping some Canadians will weigh in on this one. If American money funds it, it's a great idea for Canada. Interesting that America now might be more dependent on Canada than we are on the Middle East.

It should be built if it can be done in an ecologically sound manner. It isn't something that should be rushed into, and that's the reason for the debate. The EPA was created for a good reason. If we don't protect the environment, who will?

Ah, so that's what they're doing with all that pipe down there at the Crossroads. I wondered about that. They have more pipe stockpiled than Carter's got little liver pills.

  • Only if WE get to keep the oil here. I read on Yahoo that most if not all oil coming out of Alaska is sold to the Japenese.

Not if it will replace natural habitat and other natural resources. There is enough of that going on already and once it's gone, it's gone for good.

Is there any buildings in the way that will be knocked down?
