Anyone noticed that using loudness function on headunits, work better for ordenary speakers, than subs?

I noticed it when i had to drive arround without the sub on.

Then when i had it on while only using the regular speakers, the loudness sounded much better for the small speakers than for the huge subwoofer.

i dont use any of that, my head unit has a feature i think its called volume adjust, but it just made the head unit clip at a lower volume and sent WAY too much bass to the door speakers even when the bass was all the way down. using it at lower volumes wont hurt as bad but at higher voolumes you run the risk of sending a dirty signal.
