Question about Golf shoe-spikes?

Played golf today and at some point during the course I lost a spike from one of my golf shoes. Apparently it just came unscrewed.

Question(s): To replace it, are golf shoe-spikes "one size fits all"? Would the thread of the spike(s) differ from shoe company-to-shoe company and spike manufacturer-to-spike manufacturer? If the threads do differ, is there an easy way to know what spikes to purchase? Will I have to have to bring in a shoe-spike (or the whole shoe itself) to find a spike that will fit?

No. The threads will vary depending on what brand (i.e. Footjoy, Etonic, Adidas, etc.) and model you have. If you go to a golf store they will have a display with a breakdown of what brand(s) each one fits.

Failing that, you can look this up online (if you're buying softspikes their website has a breakdown of what type fits each brand).

Over the years Nike has used different spikes with different mounting systems. Take the shoes to your favorite golf shop. They will be able to identify which type they are and will have the replacement spikes. If you like the shoes and plan to keep them for a while you can buy the replacement tool and a box of spikes and do it yourself. Then as one or two wear out you can replace them yourself.

It varies. There's metal thread, large plastic thread, Q-Lock, Fast Twist and PINS.

This is Soft Spike's website. Specifically, how to know what thread you need. Just click on the bar under the "Insert Systems" banner to find a pop-up. It's color-coded and easy to follow.

I'll second the "Rock Bottom Golf is the best place to buy" line. Good prices and fast shipping are always a plus in my book.

I'm surprised you still have real spikes for your golf shoes. For the last 20 years or so, plastic spikes have been used. If the shoes are old, I'd buy new ones with easy care hard plastic "spikes". Mine have lasted for three years and are starting to wear out.

You might ask your pro shop about new spikes, but they might have to order them for you.

i have replaced my spikes many times, after they get dull overtime. All brands have worked for my shoes. I have had footjoy shoes, nike shoes, and my now current golf shoes are adidas. All brands of spikes have worked for them and i would order my spikes on rockbottomgolf.com. Cheapest golf site i have found, much cheeper that going to a retail store. I hope this helps.

Take one spike off and use that one for a reference.
