How to get the stink of burned meat out of ny house?

So on Christmas Day I got pretty drunk and decided I was hungry. Being that it was christmas there was nothing opened so I grabbed some frozen burger patties from my freezer and stuck them in the oven to defrost at 365 degrees. Well, I past out and my brother woke to find the house full of smoke and these two little clumps of charred meat in the oven. I'm lucky I didn't burn the house down but now my house has this awful meat smell. Anyone know how I can rid this smell from my house. I hate a stinky house.

The only way to get rid of the smell is to open as many doors and windows as you can and turn on every fan in your house to exchange all of the air. We've all done something similar, though in our house it usually involves a plastic cooking spoon or bag that gets too close to a burner or falls onto the heating element in the dishwasher. It also only seems to happen in the winter when it's freezing cold here in the Midwest and its really uncomfortable to open everything, but it's the only way to get the smell of burnt stuff out of the house.

Check the filters in your range hood, too, if you have them. Most can be cleaned with hot soapy water or are dishwasher safe. They tend to collect grease and a lot of us forget to clean them periodically. Air fresheners only mask the smell and don't do much to treat the cause of the odor, which is tiny particles of burnt stuff in the air. Humans can detect even minute traces of some cooking odors and the only way to get rid of them is to get as much of the old air out and fresh air in, unless you live next door to a steakhouse or Charlie Sheen. Put a coat on and open everything up, it's the only way, sorry.

Source(s): Like I said, we only do it once a year or so and it usually involves a plastic utensil or cooking wrap which is not only stinky, it's potentially toxic if the exposure is long enough or anyone in the home has respiratory issues.
