Help with Asperger's Syndrome?

I'm a 16 year old girl who teaches a first grade CCD class with another teenager. In my class there is a boy who is a year older than all the other kids and has Asperger's Syndrome. He seems to be very intelligent but refuses to interact with the other children and participate in discussions or class activities. We don't try to force him, and make it clear that it's his choice whether he wants to participate or not. However, he says he hates coming to class because it's boring. We can't bring the curriculum up to his level, because it wouldn't be fair to the other 11 kids in the class. I just want to make the experience comfortable and enjoyable for him, but I don't know how. Can anyone with experience with this issue help me with this?

Since there are two of you, rather than bringing the curriculum up to his level, is there any way of making it possible for one of the two of you providing some more focused, one on one work with him?

It sounds as if he is very capable of verbalizing so I would put the ball in his court. Ask him what he wants to do in class, would he like to lead a lesson, with your help of course. Make him proactive instead of reactive by getting his input!
