PCs have more value, power, and can be applied to more things and can work with more software. They have about the same mechanical reliability as a Mac, but have weaker software reliability as they are prone to viruses.
PCs are good for-
General Web Browsing
Basic Computing
Gaming
Advanced Programs
Macs have very strong software stability, and they usually become outdated for modern tasks before they suffer a fatal error mechanically. They are great for creative tasks thanks to their software stability and intuitiveness. Despite these advantages, they have software compatibility issues and are quite expensive.
Macs are good for-
Video Editing
Advanced Photo Editing
Reliable Web Browsing

It very much depends on many different things.
I would say get a Mac, because I have a MacBook Pro. I was used to Windows and then when I got this I just had to stick with Apple because everything is so much more simple and responsive. There are fewer crashes (if at all). The speed of my MacBook will be faster than a laptop with the same specs running windows. Everything runs smoothly and seamlessly; its just fabulous!
However, most software and programs which you may already have bought and installed might not be compatible with Mac and if you have a lot of these that you still need/want then maybe it will be best staying with Windows so more money will not be wasted buying them for Mac.
BUT, I advise for you to get a Mac, even if you are new to it.
Hope this helps :)
