Word Processing for my iPad 2?

I got an iPad 2 (16 GB) for Christmas and was wondering if it would be worth it to put a word processing app (similar to Microsoft Word, which I know cannot go on an Apple product) on it? I'm a grad school student and would love to be able to use it to write papers when I have it with me when I can't have a laptop. I've read a little about Apple's Pages and another Apple product that I can't remember off the top of my head but don't really know much about either.

This iPad does NOT have 3G or 4G but is a wi-fi only iPad, so I would need to be able to save all documents until I could e-mail them to myself if I am not in a wi-fi hotspot. Also, is there one where I could print from the program? I have a wireless printer and wi-fi at home so I'm thinking it should work if the iPad is capable of printing?

Thank you in advance for your help!

It would be ideal to get one, it may cost you some money though. I use the notes section on the iPad, which is ok, but a word document publishing application would be very convenient.

Get pages. It works great allows you to type, save, and print documents. I use it to type papers for college too.

Check Open Office, does same as word for free. Don't know if runs on iPad.
