Do you think psychological problems actually exist? can't they just be feelings or something else? ?
Like I know major ones like being a psychopath and stuff are real but the small things like anxiety and bi polar disorder and some forms of OCD, like can't it be simplified really intense feelings like fear and anger and love? Idk I was thinking and it just feels like every emotional trait is now a psychological disorder and a bunch of people are being put on meds for it and it seems so wrong!!
and yeah I knew about the chemical imbalances blah blah blah but why does it have to be called a disorder like you even said it can be genetic so isn't it just good old natural organic human behavior just intensified a little bit . idk the word disorder just bothers me a little because I carry all the traits of someone with both anxiety and bi polar disorder and i haven't done any drugs it just feels like that's how i am designed as a unique human being with different emotion and behavior patterns or whatever and they shouldn't be labeled as physiological disorders!!
ew all you guys suck

There are several factors that draw the line between "disorder" and "different".
Lets use "depression" as an example.
Does the attribute in question cause significant distress to you? As in are you on a regular basis deeply troubled by the fact that you suffer from depression, or are you okay with it. A better distinction would be to say that if my mother died, (god forbid) I would be deeply upset but I would recognize depression as part of the grieving process. If on the other hand I didn't think I had a good reason to be depressed, and thought I was missing out on life, I would be distressed.
Is it considered deviant by the conventional norms of society? How unusual is your behavior? It is not considered that unusual to be picky about making sure things are clean. It is unusual to wash your hands 30 times in one day.
Is your behavior harmful to yourself or others? This doesn't just mean wrist cutting or something, it's much more broad.
Does your behavior affect your ability to keep a job? Take care of yourself? Connect with others? These types of things are important too.
If I was a psychologist and you came into my office and told me you have the traits of someone with anxiety and bipolar disorders, and you can't keep a job, maintain healthy relationships, take care of yourself, leave your house, and it's making you so miserable you want to curl up and cry on a nightly basis, I would say you have at least one disorder.
If you told me your extremely anxious sometimes when you know you don't need to be, and your moods are less stable then they should be sometimes, but you are able to take care of yourself, you have a job and relationships and such, and you don't hate yourself and feel miserable all the time, then I would say you may have some challenges not everybody has, but I would not say you have a disorder.
Having a disorder is not as simple as being depressed, emotionally unstable, or obsessive over certain things. It's all about how these things affect your life.
Psychology is different from the other life sciences in that it is highly ambiguous at times and open to individual interpretation. One person could say you have a disorder, while another says otherwise, and it could be completely impossible to prove both of them right or wrong.
Ultimately Psychology is about looking inward, not outward.

Bi polar disorders and anxiety disorders are real. They are caused by chemical imbalances in the brain usually obtained by genetics or drug abuse. I have Bi polar disorder and three quarters of the day I'm really down and then all of a suddenly I have a surge of energy. I got it activated by my drug use. Certain drugs cause brain damage that can permanently change some functions in your brain. My mom has it as well. She use to do drugs too so I'm thinking there is some correlation between the use and the mental illness.

Bipolar disorder is not something to be taken lightly - especially if you meet many of the criteria. Some people who are bipolar end up killing people or killing themselves, or burning houses down. It's not about feelings - it's about the way you think - your mindset and perception, and people who have personality disorders don't think or see things the way most people (ie "normal" people) think, which makes relationships problematic for them and for whoever they are involved with.
It's given a label so that if you have it or someone who you care for has it, you know what's going on and how to prepare and care for yourself and/or them. It doesn't mean you're unacceptable - it means you're distinct when it comes to the way you think and that you have to make allowances for yourself. Sometimes labels have negative connotations - be strong and don't feel like you're less than anyone else. Your imperfections become your strength.

What you do or did with your physical organs can /could only take place when the mind sends signal to do that or this. But whenever the action be considered abnormal, it is categorized into psychological problem. All our emotions arise from the core of our conscious through analytic process of the brain. Chemical disturbance in brain cells or in neurons creates disposition of behavior exposition to which in common words we say to it abnormal behavior or attitude. Though the genes play important role in formation of behavioral structure even then environmental (nurturing) and dietary habits play vital role. Physical and metal diseases are responsible to develop irritability and its prolonged recurrence made all psychological problem more serious.

Bipolar disorder is NOT a minor emotional problem. People with Bipolar can become psychotic (hallucinate and have delusions) when they are manic and 20% of people with Bipolar actually kill themselves. That is 1 in 5 actually manage to kill themselves. It is the highest rate of suicide of any known group. Sure some people are just moody but being moody is NOT Bipolar. Bipolar is much more severe than that and requires treatment to control.
