Why does my cat lick plastic bags?

My cat licks plastic bags. Literally. He will sit on or near a plastic bag (like a grocery bad or a bag some some other kind of store or something) and lick it for no apparent reason. Does it get him high? Is it harmful? Why does he do it? I'm so confused.

Update:

He never tries to eat the bags. He just sits there licking them.

One of mine does that and he looks like he's having a tongue orgasm when he's doing it. He's 15 years old and he's done it his whole life so obviously it hasn't hurt him. I don't know if he likes the texture, the sound or if he's trying to taste all the scents on the bag.

Every cat i've ever owned did that. I assume they like the taste cause they is really nothing they can get from it (think of it this way, your food is put in it) but if they eat it now, it's different cause it could clog up thier guts.

Haha my cat does that too! Its really weird. I dont exactly know why, but I think they like the texture, and how it crinkles under their tongue. Its not harmful, but if they start actually chewing and swallowing it, thats bad, because that will make them sick. I think he's fine though.

Some bags are made with animal fats. That's right... animal fats! They smell it, and want to lick it.
