Why is New Years Day Considered a Holiday?

It is just a day that connects an old year to a new year nothing else changes but the year.

    it's not a real "holiday" it only considered one by schools and work places because no one shows up to school/work that day anyway so they just made it official to solve the problem of no students and staff. and also because it's something everyone in American can celebrate together so it's just a "special" event
