I just seem to stumble into jobs...

I first altered a garment for a neighbor..that started sewing for people

Then I baked a cake for a friend at her place of work...started getting calls for pies and cakes.

.learned ( from pictures ) how to decorate cakes,, was asked to teach a class in cake decorating..

Went to work part time at a craft store..started making crafts,,,asked to teach crafts

Took a floral design class..a local florist hired me to design for them..then taught floral design ,too

Decorated an Historical Mansion for the Christmas season...was asked to decorate a couple of homes for people...

Loved doing all of that..am now retired just make candy as gifts..and sew for fun...

I won't be in my chosen profession for at least another year and what I do for a living right now is help run the family business, which for some reason I'm really good at even though I go to medical school at the same time.

I'm doing a two year part time MA and funding it by working at a solicitor's office in the city.

My Dad knows one of the partners as they were at Uni together, years ago, and they kept in touch. When he heard I was doing my post grad studies here he told my Dad about one of the section heads looking for a sort of personal assistant for her secretary. That's what I am doing really. Mrs Brigg's secretary's assistant.

I had an interview and everything. It wasn't just nepotism. I am pretty whizzy with computers too, which helped. I started in August. I do full time when it's not term time, then my hours are arranged around my Uni schedule.

It's a huge company and has many different sections covering virtually every aspect of law.

Source(s): I actually want to follow Dad into lecturing at a Uni myself. So I am not planning on staying at the solicitor's forever.
