Does running make you lose weight? Or gain muscle?

I've always wondered if running makes you lose weight or gain muscle mass. I don't want to gain muscle I just want to tone my body.

Running alone WILL NOT help you gain muscle mass. While its true that running will initially give you a strength boost in your legs; this boost will eventually plateau. Once you plateau, more running will only tone your leg muscles, and make them look nice when you flex.

O and running is essential if you want to tone your abs. Without running, getting a "nice looking" 4 pack is very difficult and a 6 pack is nearly impossible. Running along with planks, cross crunches, sit-ups and leg raises; will tone your body.

    Good Luck

Well you will gain muscle, but thats because your replacing the fat you burn off with muscle. But if your worried about bulking up, running doesn't make you bulky. It actually tends to make your legs thinner. Lifting weights makes you bulky. Actually if you look at most long distance and marathon runners they are usually on the thin side. Running is a great way to lose weight, and it not only works your legs but your arms and core.

You won't gain much muscle, if you were to lift weights and do squats you wouldn't be able to build enough muscle to make you look buff without years of training anyway.

Building Muscle is an extremely slow proccess and you can't get that big naturally, most people can never hope to see 200+ pounds at 10% bodyfat(just barely lean enough to see abs) without taking drugs.

Running is cardio. The high oxygen intake helps burn fat. You can definitely lose weight running. However, like anything else, it's about calorie intake and burn. The only muscle gain I can think of, is if you were doing allot of inclined running, (Mountain trails, hill sides, steep roads). Then you might firm your butt, tone your thighs, and build your calves slightly. Leg muscle can be built doing smaller scale runs, such as finding a small steep grass hill (25-40ft) and doing sprint drills up them. Just like running up stadium steps. Running even smallest incline street/grass field in thick SNOW (with appropriate footwear) is a good challenge too.

go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food

after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on

your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If

you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey

cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your

diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to

calculate points or to buy special meals or plans.

    good luck,my friend
