A city by it’s very nature is not sustainable, it needs a large area dedicated to supplying it’s and it’s populations needs. So if we look at what the population dose on a regular bases, bye food for instance, the box or outer packaging is not needed, it’s used as a lure to entice people in to buying that brand. So it’s not what we can do to reduce waste, and save power. It’s can we change our customs / expectations and culture to reduce greed and stupidity.

There are lots of things that a city can do to become more sustainable. For instance, a city could start establishing wind and solar energy systems in neighborhoods. Geothermal energy is a great alternative to heating and cooling your house, and it has no harmful consequences, the only downside is that it can be expensive to install, but it pays for itself in that it eliminates energy bills.

Ones community could also set standards for recycling. Making it mandatory for residence in a community to recycle is a forceful step in encouraging environmental awareness and participation. One thing that seems to be popular is powering schools through solar panels, this seems like a really good idea and it also puts renewable energy in the minds of the adolescent population. Using a mix between solar, wind and geothermal technology one can eliminate the reliance on fossil fuels for energy.
