Can someone REALLY explain a dna molecule to me?

I need to know how they work so I can make dna model for my biology class. I can't really say that I understand how they work and that could be a problem when making a model. ANY information would be helpful. Project tips, building material suggestions, and maybe even a lecture on the structure of a DNA molecule. Thanks

here are some facts about dna, hope it helps on your project:

It would take about 9.5 years to read out loud, without stopping, all th DNA information present in one person. The nucleus in a cell contains small parts called chromosomes. Every human cell contains 46 chromosomes, 23 from each parent. The material in each chromosome that carries the information is called deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA. The DNA molecule looks like a twisted ladder, known as the double helix.

    Did you know?

The instructions in the DNA are called genes. Genes are what determine eye color, hair color, whether or not you can roll your tongue, or if you're good at sports. Plant genes determine such traits as height, shape of leaves, and flower color.

also the base pairs is something you'll need to understand as you can show that adenine pairs with thymine and guanine pairs with cytosine by color coding each base when constructing your model. (don't worry this will make more sense to you when reading the information in the link) x
