Massive GOP Double Standard On Photo ID Voting Laws?
For all of their years of claims that massive voter fraud is going on at the polling place, and that Photo ID's are required to ensure the integrity of the vote, you'd think that when Republicans have a chance to run their own elections, they'd be sure to want it to be as "fraud" free as possible.
But despite some polling place Photo ID requirements now the law in about a dozen states where the GOP controls both the legislative and executive branches, voters will be able to cast their ballot in Tuesday's Republican Iowa Caucuses without bothering to show a Photo ID --- even though the Republican Party itself sets their own rules for voting there.
Unlike most primary elections where an official state election board or agency sets the rules and runs the registration and balloting processes, the Iowa Republican Party runs its own state caucuses, determines the rules, tabulates all the votes and announces the results to the public and media themselves. They have complete control over the entire process, and yet they don't bother to ask their own voters to show a Photo ID before casting their ballot.
And I know exactly why that's the case. Polling place photo ID laws, passed in states where Republicans took control in the wave election of 2010, are instituted for one purpose and one purpose only: to suppress the votes of voters such as the elderly, minorities and students, all of whom have a dastardly tendency to vote for Democratic candidates rather than Republicans.
Since only Republicans are on the Iowa Republican Caucus ballot (unlike general elections) the GOP has no interest in disenfranchising their own voters.
Isn't it shameful they have to be so dishonest?
@freedom and liberty.
If the above is not accurate then provide a source showing it is wrong.
I bet you can't.
Nice try, though.

Yes it is both shameful and dishonest. Voter fraud is way overblown, and requiring ID at the polling place doesn't stop it. The effect of the laws is to increase the time it takes to vote and it costs money to set it up and provide people with free IDs. The act that they don't require it at the Caucuses shows that the Republicans understand this. They want to increase inconvenience of voting for people who work for a living.
"You have to show ID to use your credit card, your debit card or write a check in this day and age; why not show it to vote? "
Voting is not a financial transaction. It is a free right and it is supposed to be anonymous. You aren't paying for anything when you vote. In my state you already have to show ID the first time you vote at a polling place. Nobody commits voter fraud by driving around to various polling places and pretending to be somebody who lives in the district. I challenge any proponents of this nonsense to produce documentation of a single case of this sort of fraud occurring.

why would the GOP worry about voter fraud in its own elections where all the candidates are GOP?

The republicans have no control over whether or not people must show ID if the law says they don't have to. This is a silly rant with no basis in reality.
I'll cheerfully show my ID to vote.Same as any honest person would do.

Of course!!!!
Republican state congresses are only passing these laws in states with high minority populations.

You have to show ID to use your credit card, your debit card or write a check in this day and age; why not show it to vote? All the hair-splitting over this is just absolutely ridiculous. Let me ask you this -- whose interest does it serve to keep us from having to show ID to vote, and why is it such a huge issue to you? Just what are YOU trying to pull?

Maybe they'll accept your EBT card as ID when you go vote
