Does the name, Colleen have any other meaning?
My Real name is Colleen, and it means Irish girl. I feel like it's kinda plain, and I want to know is there a deeper meaning, or is that it?
All answers welcome. Thanks

I like the name Colleen. true it means "girl" but why is that so plain? "girl" has a lot more meaning than just something you might have in your mind. the word 'girl' has some meaning to it. it conjures up the words- innocent, sweet, youthful, young, pretty. anything BUT plain.
there are some variants of Colleen such as Cathleen (Kathleen) which have a similar sound. Cathleen is a form of Caitlin, which is a form of Katherine (Catherine) which has been associated from the Greek καθαρος (katharos) meaning, "pure". when i think of the word "girl" the word "pure" definitely comes to mind.
on the whole, i think people lend to the fullness and character of a name not the name itself. i think that when your family or friends hear your name- "girl" doesn't come to mind, but something much more substantial than just "girl"...they probably think of you the person Colleen and all your personality traits and opinions and views and character, not 'the name Colleen meaning girl' with a thumbnail of your pick by the word. just food for thought. :)

Colleen is a beautiful irish name and yes it does come from the irish version of the word for irish girl but my nana told me that the word became a name because a beautiful girl was called (cailin go halainn) meaning beautiful girl in irish(sorry for the lack of fada's over the irish letters) it's a wonderful name full of history,be proud of it!! p.s it is NOT an irish version of the name Collin and it it used as a name in Ireland i live in the South of Ireland not in Northern ireland and i know of people also called Colleen!!

No, there is no deeper meaning. Colleen is derived from the Irish word cailín meaning "girl". I'm sorry. It's a pretty name. I don't find it plain. I quite like it, really.
Enjoy 2012.
