Check engine light is on - transmission range sensor a circuit vs neutral safety switch. Do I need to repair?
Advanced auto scanned car & said "transmission range sensor a circuit"
Aamco scanned and said that it's "neutral safety switch." Will cost $555 for part and $200 for labor!!!
Additional details:
When driving, shift indicator lights up, D, which is normal. However, after a few minutes, the N & 3 also light up on the shift indicator. I don't hear or smell anything. After a few days, check engine light went away and only D lights up. Do I need to do anything?
Car is 2005 Toyota Sienna LE, 6 cylinder with 158,000 miles (virtually all highway miles)

Yes, you do, before you fry the transmission! This is an intermittent problem in the TR (transmission range) sensor circuit! It is ALWAYS important to provide the DTC number (P0705) rather than the code description ("transmission range sensor a circuit") It makes diagnostics a lot easier!
The TR is NOT the only thing that will cause this condition!
