what is the difference between inches lost and weight lost?

this confuses me because how can you lose inces and no weight? Apparently this is what i s happening to me. i started working out at the gym four months ago. lost seven lbs. right away. i havent been able to lose anymore. well i can tell my clothes fit different, i look a lot different and people have noticed. thats cool i shouldnt argue with it. but i still feel bad when i look at the scale. Im 38, had two kids and weigh 143 on a good day and im barely 5ft 3in. can someone explain this to me. and my doctor keeps saying im fat and i should eat only one meal a day. well i am not fat and sure as hell not going to eat once a day for vanity.

muscle weights more then fat, thats why your weight hasnt changed but youve lost inch's.

thats a good thing, more muscle less fat is always a good thing. weight doesnt matter. your health does, and your healthier with more muscle and less fat.

eventually it'll catch up and you'll find as your motabolism catchs up it'll burn even more fat, faster then your body can create muscle, and your weight will drop.

I have a hard time beleiving that your doctor told you to only eat one meal a day, if thats actually true, Id look for a new doctor.

a healthy lifestyle is always the most important thing, that includes eating healthy and proper fitness. eating only one meal a day is NOT healthy in anyway at all. it puts the body into starvation mode which is counter productive to your end goal of being healthy.

We lose up to 15% of our lean muscle tissue between the age of 25 and 50 if we do not maintain a moderate exercise routine.

So you started exercising. You have regained a portion of this lost muscle, toned existing muscle, and lowered body fat percentage. Muscle tissue weighs more than stored fat so you can lose inches of stored fat and add minuscule new muscle throughout the muscle tissues.

I am floored that any doctor would recommend one meal a day unless you have a diagnosed thyroid issue you don't mention.

Three healthy meals and three healthy snacks a day keep the metabolism elevated and provide a more consistent energy supply to the entire body.

It has only been four months. Healthy weight loss is a journey, not a foot race,

Be patient and determined. Good luck.

Your 7 pound weight loss is probably coming from water and fat. But as you work out, you tone up and build muscle mass. muscle is 7x denser than fat, so as you lose fat you can be gaining less muscle than fat lost (in volume) but stay at the same weight. the captain of my rugby team is 150 lbs but i swear to god she is so thin and i would guess her at 125. I am also 150 (and about the same height), and lets just say we dont fit into the same pairs of pants lol..

You gained muscle and lost fat, that's what you want. To continue to lose, avoid all food products that have added additives because they turn off your ability to know you've had enough to eat. They also add useless calories.

let's say if you weigh 143.7

your weight will stay at 143, but the 7 will change.

    thats inches loss.
