    A complex waveform (signal) must contain two or more frequencies. A pure sine or cosine is the only waveform that contains only one frequency.

    A graph of the actual magnitude of the Voltage of a complex Voltage waveform (signal) plotted vertically for one complete cycle versus time on the horizontal axis of the graph is a good representation of the physical meaning of a complex signal.

    I believe an imaginary component translates to a phase shift.
