How do I connect studio monitors into my computer?

So I'm setting up a little studio in my room and am thinking about buying M-Audio Av 40s, seen here

http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-AV-40-Studio-M...

However, I'm not sure how to connect them to my computer, as these are my first non-usb speakers haha. Do I need one of those audio interface boxes?

Update:

I also had a question about the TRS inputs. What are those used for? Do I need them in order to use them?

This is funny. These are the pair my friend has. He uses a M-Audio Fast Track to hook up his monitor, because its a sound card and also an audio to digital interface for recording XLR or 1/4" TRS phone.

It is true that you could plug it in using a TRS to 2 RCA splitter right into you computers sound card, but everyone knows that, that sounds terrible compared to the quailty of sound you could get from plugging it into and interface.

To answer your "Additional Details" TRS is a type of plug also refereed to as a phone cable (because old telephones used to use the 1/4" version of them) they are now used by guitars, keyboards, bass guitars, and almost all amplifier use them. Headphone are normally 1/8" (sometimes smaller) but higher end headphone tend to be 1/4" or have an 1/8" to 1/4" adapter, so that you can go back and forth.

    How To Connect Studio Monitors

Firstly, DON'T buy the M-Audio BX5A. It is on sale on Musician's Friend for $150. Far superior than the AV-40's and they are on sale for the SAME price.

To connect your monitors to your system you will need an interface. You can technically output sound from your headphone jack, but the quality will suck. Stock sound cards just don't output good sound. So I recommend you buy an interface as you are planning to set up a small home studio. Now since you said you are planning on a home recording studio, you will need an interface for a microphone anyway. And this interface can output to monitors using proper cables. One such interface is the Tascam US200 ($150). The tascam US-100 ($70) will also do the job but it has lesser inputs.

If you don't need a recording interface and are looking for a bare basic way to output sound then go for the Behringer UCA202 Audio Interface ($30). It is a USB interface that connects to your computer. You can in turn connect that to your monitor using RCA to 1/4 inch cables. One brand selling such cable is Hosa CPR201 Dual 1/4 To Dual RCA.

You do not need any type of interface, all you need is a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable - looks like this:

The headphone end goes to your headphone jack on the PC - the RCA ends go to the speakers. Very easy. The back of the speakers looks like this:
