  • Percent copper in this copper-zinc alloy?

    I'm just..confused...

The density of a material made up of two or more different substances will be a weighted average of the substances that make it up. (what is a weighted average?) Suppose you have a block of copper-zinc alloy that has a density of 7.76 g/cm^3. Calculate the percent copper in the alloy. (density of copper = 8.92 g/cm^3 ; density of zinc = 7.16 g/cm^3)

I'm just not sure what to do. Since copper is more dense than zinc, I'm assuming that there is more copper in this alloy than zinc, I just don't know how to calculate the exact percentage.

    Any pointers are appreciated! Thanks!

  • Weight of helium in a balloon?

I need a little guidance for a problem in my class.

Archimedes's principle states that the lifting force (buoyancy) of a balloon is equal to the weight of the air displaced by the balloon. What is the buoyancy force generated by a 30x10^6 ft^3 helium-filled, high-altitude balloon, assuming the air density at 120,000 feet is 1.27x10^-5 slug/ft^3 ?

The weight is around 12,200 pounds.

    Now:

What is the weight of the helium from the problem above if the specific gas constant for helium is R = 12,425 (ft lb)(slug degrees Rankine)?

the professor said that this problem was a little tricky and that you should write down the equation of state for both air and helium and compare the two.

so the equation of state is:

    pressure = (density)(specific gas constant)(temperature)

I can find the temperature at 120,000 ft with a simple Google search and I know the density of air, as it is given above.

I'm just unsure of how to get helium's weight...

    and I know weight = (mass)(gravity)

    I'm just a little stuck.

Can one of you show me the way?

  • bouyant force for this problem?

I'm looking to check my work for a problem I had in class.

What is the buoyancy force generated by a 30x10^6 ft^3 helium-filled, high-altitude balloon, assuming the air density at 120,000 feet is 1.27x10^-5 slug/ft^3 ? Archimedes's principle states that the buoyancy of a balloon is equal to the weight of the air displaced by the balloon.

So it looks like I'm given density and a volume, so I can calculate mass. I did and got 371. Is that correct? If not, can someone offer some help?

  • Which number is more precise?

How is precision determined with whole numbers? Which number is more precise 10,000 or 12,5000? Or what about 15 and 7? I ask because we're working with significant figures and scientific notation in my chemistry class.

    Thanks!

  • Can someone help me identify a Shakespeare quote about suicide?

In my psychology textbook last year there was a section of the book about suicide. It quoted Shakespeare, but I cannot remember the quote -_- only bits and pieces.

It talked about life being trapped or in a cage and that it would "escape" if it had the chance.

    Thanks!!

  • I'm looking for an old cartoon/animated kids film...?

It had something to do with a man and a steam engine or crane, or some other construction/industrial equipment.

I think it was a musical and some of the lyrics of a song, if i remember correctly, went something like "no one wants us... no one needs us..."

I apologize if this little bit of information isn't sufficient, but it's all I've got.

    Thanks!

  • What song in the Lovely Bones...?

It plays when Susie first enters the "afterlife." I know it's original music by Brian Eno, I just don't know what the title is.It plays at 45 minutes into the movie.

  • Unlocking my Iphone 3gs 6.1.3?

So I have recieved an iphone 3gs with 6.1.3. I cannot downgrade, as I do not have anty shsh blobs and don't really want to try the methods of downgrading that "don't require them."

Do I just have to hold out for an unlocking tutorial or something? I guess jailbreaking and unlocking 6.1.3 is very new, so I should wait yes? I don't want to pay for unlocking.

  • My Ti-84 isn't using the notation I want it to use?

It won't put powers to the top right of the base, when I press the "^" key, it simply puts ^. It used to create the little box so that I could put the numbers to the top right, but my friend did something to my calculator and now it doesn't. Help, plox?

  • sin^2(x)+cos(2x)-cos(x)=0?

How do I tackle this? What identities should I use? At first glance I want to get rid of that sin^2(x) to get something with a cosine in it, but I don't know how to proceed.

  • To what extent did the Compromise 1850 cause the civil war?

We are writing an essay in my AP U.S. history class this week and I'm a little confused about this prompt. From what I understand, the Compromise of 1850 DELAYED the civil war for a decade. Of course it failed because there was obviously enough tension between the north and south to start a war ten years later (with the help of a few other events that pushed the south toward secession). I'm just a little confused as to how I'm supposed to answer this question. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • What is the best way to prepare for the SAT?

So I'm going to be a junior in high school and it's time to take the SAT. I know some people take classes and some people just use those big books. I am thinking about doing both. I want to take Princeton Review's course in February and use books to study before. I am thinking about buying Princeton Review's Cracking the SAT 2012 or the College Board book. Are the Princeton Review prep courses good? Also, which book is better? The College Board or Princeton Review?

  • Can I use the DMV's drivers handbook as my drivers ed?

So I stumbled upon the Driver's Handbook on the DMV website that seems to have everything there s to know about the roads and considering it's the DMV website, it must be legit. Can i use this and a few practice tests as my drivers ed?

I know I'll probably be encouraged not to, but why not? If it has all the rules and stuff, shouldn't this suffice as my "driver's ed?"
