To what extent did the Compromise 1850 cause the civil war?

We are writing an essay in my AP U.S. history class this week and I'm a little confused about this prompt. From what I understand, the Compromise of 1850 DELAYED the civil war for a decade. Of course it failed because there was obviously enough tension between the north and south to start a war ten years later (with the help of a few other events that pushed the south toward secession). I'm just a little confused as to how I'm supposed to answer this question. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The compromise still increased tensions between the North and the South because it introduced popular sovereignty which allowed new territories to decide whether or not to allow slavery. It also included the Fugitive Slave Act which most northerners ignored and this just fueled the fire for the South.

actually, states' rights have been the reason of the Civil conflict. The North replaced into heavily business and the South replaced into heavily agricultural. The federal government placed a extreme tariff on promoting cotton products and this affected commerce with Europe. additionally, the slaves that a number of the Southerners had replaced into offered belongings and the federal government wanted to incredibly plenty take that faraway from them. it is the impetus that sparked the conflict.
