Would it be terrible if I pierced my own septum?
I asked my mom if I could get a septum piercing, and she said that I couldn't have anymore on my face. I was like, "Really, I only have a nose stud." anyways, she totally objected to the idea, and now I am disappointed. I really want this piercing. Should I buy the needles, clamps, and a retainer online and do it myself. (I pierced my own nose) Or should I tell her around the time of my birthday? If I pierce it myself, could I just put in the retainer so that she couldn't see it? Thanks so much, and please, no rude comments.

Contrary to what a lot of people on here are probably gonna say, I say go for it. Septums are actually quite easy to pierce, because the sweet spot is just two layers of thin skin. You honestly don't need clamps, and you can get a regular septum barbell, because you can just flip it up once it's pierced! :D I healed mine flipped up, 'cause my parents didn't want me to get it either. And it's perfectly fine. A friend pierced mine (she had piercing experience) and I've had it for almost 3 years now. My parents of course know about it now, but I did manage to hide it for a good 3 months, until I looked up in front of them haha. Anyway. Just make sure everything's clean, get a 14g hollow needle, a 16g barbell, and some H2Ocean spray. (They usually sell it at hot topic). Make sure you pierce your sweet spot, and not your cartilage. Good luck! :D

If you think she'd flip out, I'd go the retainer, but you'd wanna be sure you wouldn't accidentally flip it down over dinner or when blowing your nose or something :D Or try to reason with her on your birthday. It's much cheaper to do it at a studio, some even do sales, than to buy all the gear and never use it again. Plus, septum infections aren't attractive. Barring all of that, DIY and run away for a weekend if she complains too much...chances are she hates the music you listen to anyway, so will it really be that much of a surprise to her??

I never think it's a good idea to pierce anything yourself. Only because of the fact you could be doing it completely wrong and then it looks horrible or you could infect it because your hands are dirty or you didn't sterilize the jewelry itself. I wouldn't recommend it because there's so many things that could go wrong from not sterilizing it or piercing it in the wrong spot. I don't think it's a good idea and it's something I definitely would not do because I don't think it's worth the risk.

You should never pierce yourself as you are unqualified. piercing yourself can be dangerous and you could cause things to go wrong or get infection easily.
You should ALWAYS go to a professional piercer as they know what they are doing and have all the right knowledge and sterile equipment.

I would just get it done at a professional studio as it's cheaper and safer.
If you ask for a horseshoe ring you can flip it up into your nose to hide it!

I think you could do it. Doing a septum yourself isn't that tough. My mom was such a b*tch about me getting my piercings, but one day I came home after a week with my friends with both my ears pierced/stretched up and two spiderbites. She couldn't do too much and told me to take them out, but I didn't. Still have them to this and I might get a septum done as well, along with two more spiderbites and my brow. You don't really need a retainer you can flip it up. Good luck :)
