War, what is it good for?
Millions have died in two world wars and more, fought in the name of freedom and democracy.
Yet, Europe is now governed by an unelected parliament in Brussels.
Or is war just a good way of keeping the population down, and big business for the arms manufacturers ?

Unelected Parliament, so when I vote in European Elections I am not voting for an MEP, well a party who will allocate an MEP from a list? And when the rest of the people who vote do so are they note "electing" their Euro MPs?
Or perhaps you mean the European Council which consists of ministers from the member states all of whom have been voted for by the relevant electorate in their home country.
In fact when I think about it the European Commission is the only unelected body since it consists of people appointed by the elected representatives who make up the European Council and must be approved by those elected to the European Parliament.
As for war, normally started by those who are ignorant of or ignore the democratic process in an effort to seek power and wealth. Or worse still start wars based on lies about other countries or peoples.

To protect the country in which the forces are fighting for, mainly.
The bombing of Pearl Harbor is a pretty decent example that comes to mind. All those innocent Americans that were killed just because the Japanese wanted to prove a point. To protect the average American, we got involved in the war.
Governments don't just send troops anywhere just to do it. And it really bugs me when people say we went into Iraq "For no reason" We needed to settle the terrorist issue, we needed to settle the violence between the Shiites and Sunnis, and people are forgetting about Hussein and how we had reason to believe he was planning an attack on America.
Just because you don't understand WHY we, or any country is at war doesn't mean there's no reason.

Money money money money...(high pitched) Maa Neee!!!
eg. an Anti-Aircraft Missile = £80,000
an Anti-Aircraft Missile with a "combat tested" stamp = £160,000
Oil from a country in which troops are enforcing stability. =$100
Oil from a country run by an anti-western despot = $Who knows? is it even available???
One things for sure, War is not for spreading the word of democracy to a poor country just for the good of the people, and the prosperity of their children...

For settling disputes.
@ Wardell Tyrone Jackson: If you've ever been to school, or even know what that word means, you would get a job. As far as I know, us working letting you to get free time on yahoo all day and getting paid for that ironically doesn't sound like we are being racist. High education+ not born stupid= job. Too bad you still don't understand that. I sincerely feel sorry for people like you.

Greed and power. Plus it's a very primative thing for humans to do. It's just been made worse by weapons. And there really is no point to it other than money and oil.
