Why not drug test welfare bums?
Lets pits some people off... Thank you Florida, Kentucky, and Missouri, which are the first states that will require drug testing when applying for welfare. Some people are crying and calling this unconstitutional. How is this unconstitutional???? It's OK to drug test people who work for their money, but not for those who don't?… I'd like to see this done in all 50 states!!!!!

It costs more in legal fees than it saves in unpaid benefits. However I'm not fundamentally against it, but think of all the banks and auto companies we'd have to test! *sigh*

For some reason this idea has become a political powder keg. Evidently among the more liberal elements in government there is the belief that requiring a drug test infringes upon a an individual's privacy.

Why just drugs, why not for alcohol too?Don't stop there, drug and alcohol every one, cops should just walk into houses and test every one.
If people know ahead of time they're going to be tested, they stay off til after the test so how does this equate to weeding out druggies?Awesome, just keep throwing those rights to privacy out the window.

You are wrong on SO MANY counts.
I'll favor testing welfare recipients as long as we test ALL of them.
That means every oil company exec, car company exec, banker, stock broker, corporatist, and pro sports owner.
Mario Lemieux and Dan Rooney first,
AND THEN YOU,
Yes, you.
We Are All Welfare Recipients

And Rick Scott's plan in Florida failed miserably,
There is a lower rate of drug use among welfare recipients than among the general population,
Testing cost the taxpayers more than it ever would have saved.

1. It smacks of intrusive government. You're not trying to help, you just want to shame people for your own pleasure.
2. It costs more
3. As Florida proves, the failure rate is low enough that the false accusation rate is abnormally high, which means an over burdened appeals system. See #2
All so you can starve a few more kids, because they have f*cked up parents.

IT DOESNT FU** WITH THEIR PRIVACY! if WE have to do it, the working people, the welfare bums should have to if they want money.

Personally, I totally agree. The only reason they wouldn't want to get tested is if they're doing drugs, and if they're doing drugs, they shouldn't get government money.

I know a kid on welfare who used to get 1,000 from his unemployed parents for Christmas( probably cause his parents who got the money for free are to lazy to buy stuff) and now he sells and does drugs and makes more money than I do at my job... Thanks world you are still a *****.

I believe they ARE government employees..they just don't work..do you get your check from boss ?ergo..employee. I am with you..the best time to test would be 45min-1hr after check cashing..if you fail you get fired simple and straight forward
