crcdisk.sys not loading with vista on dell notebook ubuntu works fine.?

I cant reinstall, or fresh install, none of the safemodes will load, have looked on net, some suggest a slower dvd drive but I did a fresh install when it was newer and have been using it for over a year.

It did report the hdd was missing and asked me to reseat it so I did and it dected the drive again but then vista gave me a stop 7a or 7b and refused to start or install.

I have been running ubuntu for a week with no problems.

Update:

Its genuine vista I have booted to 98 dos and blowern partions maybe need to order hdd enclosure and do some testing via usb

If I understand your question correctly it sounds like safemode freezes at crcdisk.sys and you are also unable to do a clean install. I've seen similar issues many times with vista usually caused by malware corrupting system files or botched windows updates. (sometimes both) I have Ubuntu on a flash drive and it works every time when windows doesn't.

You should be able to do a clean install of windows though. I'm not sure if you're using a legit copy or not but I have found that certain DVD drives just don't work for installs. Since you said you've already successfully installed off that drive it makes me wonder if the HD is possibly failing. Have you tried formatting the drive and doing a reinstall? It's possible the MBR was corrupted.

    MBR corruption bro.

You have to clean slate your harddrive.

To do so use a buddies desktop. Hook ur harddrive in, and move everything in the trash and empty it. Than re-install windows.

    Than ur set
