Medical Expense Deduction?

If you visit a doctor or purchase medicine from a drug store and charge the procedure or drug cost to a charge card which is then paid in the following year, when can you deduct the medical expense? In the year that the charge was incurred or in the year when you actually pay the credit card company?

Assuming that it is a qualified medical expense, you claim the deduction in the year you paid for it. You paid for the medical expense when you used your credit card to pay for it.

You claim the medical expense for the year when you charged it to the credit card.
