Why do atheists reject God while living, but ask for Him when they are dying?

Firstly we cannot reject a god if it does not exist. If you really do not believe in something, you can't just summon up a true belief for your own convenience, at best it would be lip service, which by theist standards would not save you. In the absence of real proof, I doubt I could believe however frightening the dying process might be.

They have the education and intellect to know the truth and live in reality!

They do not ask for god when dying - in fact the opposite is true that many, many christians renounce Christianity when faced with their own death or that of a loved one!

Some due to the fear of death getting a grasp on them after all now it's getting close.

But sweeping generalization is always a fallacy. Some do, but the very most won't I think!

Just in case. It's more of a precaution than an actual belief. It's like a safety net - it's good to have all bases covered in case you are wrong, and if you are right, then you haven't wasted your life believing something out of fear.

Aren't people still living while they are dying? They are no longer living once they have died. But to answer the question, they don't.
