Why so many Americans on Yahoo Answers UK?
Why do I keep seeing so many questions from people who are obviously American on Yahoo Answers UK? It's annoying because lots of questions and answers depend a lot on where you are, for example there's no point me talking about A Levels to a student in the US, or giving UK helpline numbers to people outside the UK.
I can clearly see the logo for Yahoo! Answers UK & Ireland in the top left corner of my page, so I'm definitely in the right place for UK stuff ONLY, aren't I?
Wish your country location in your profile was a) compulsory and b) shown under your username.
OMG, of course I'm not racist, dur! As I said in my question, if you read it, it's often necessary to know where in the world someone is so you don't give a completely irrelevant answer. I even gave examples!
I'd rather be able to see all questions but also have the info of where each user is. But since I can't see a way of doing that, I figured that using the UK site would work because I could assume that everyone was also in the UK. Didn't realise all questions appeared on all sites - there must have been other nationalities too, I'd only noticed American posters.
Thanks for telling me about the UK only setting. I guess that will exclude all the people in other countries even when it doesn't matter to their question though. Is there any way of just checking where someone is before I answer their question, in case I'm about to say something that won't apply outside the UK? Thanks for everyone's help!

Someone said "When you click on a question to answer, it does show which country the question has originated from (underneath the action bar)" - this never appeared for me, until I just did an experiment, went to the New Zealand site, and it started appearing under all the questions. It's still doing it now I'm back on the UK site. Weird, but problem solved and this is exactly what I needed. Now I can enjoy questions from all around the world and not accidentally give an 0800 number to an Australian or something *blush*.
THANK YOU ANSWERERS!

When you first log into the site you can click the box UK & Ireland questions only, this way you will only read questions from UK & Ireland. I am on the UK site and I always click all English questions as I like the variety from all English speaking countries.
When you click on a question to answer, it does show which country the question has originated from (underneath the action bar), if there is no country of origin mentioned then the question will be from the UK & Ireland site.

I'm on Y!A USA yet here is your question. Maybe YOU didn't check "show UK only" questions.
We all speak the same language. Heaven forbid we broaden our horizons. One of the best friends I've met here in 6 years is from the UK. I'd hate to think I had been narrow-minded enough to have prevented that. and plenty of people answer $ questions with £ ... don't see the big problem.

i suppose we can learn from other countries, for example the US, but i don't understand why most of the answers seem to come from there. maybe UK residents aren't as keen on using the yahoo answers? shame if that's the case.

Because they do not check show only US questions only but leave the show all English questions.
Funny thing is when someone uses the £ sign in a question they still answer using $'s, it is as if they don't know what the £ sign means.

Well. I'm American and this popped up under my other questions list, so....this is clearly not only UK people.
+My logo is definitely American.

Why does it bother you so much? We're just trying to help either if we are from UK or if we are from somewhere else. Just give them a hand and is not your problem if thy're not in the UK, they will appreciate your help anyway. Stop being so racist. :P

Maybe it is because they find our questions better and more interesting :D :D :D
