What the hell is velveeta?

It sounds like a tasteless processed cheese.

Update:

Thank you everyone. In the Uk we have dairylea which sounds the same, and still has a place, but I would never use it for macaroni cheese.

It is real cheese that has been processed in such a way as to make it melt very smoothly. A task that REAL cheese fails at most of the time. I like both. If I want cheese then I want a good muenster or shropshire If I want a good grilled cheese then Velveeta is the $h!t.

I think it is very good. It is extremely soft. Lots of people use it to make macaroni and cheese or something like that but it does taste good! It isn't tasteless. It comes in foil wrapping inside a cardboard box thing

Nothing like a Velveeta and Spam sandwich.

It is a tiny bit of real cheese with other crap mixed in. It has a weird soft texture when it's cold, and is gluey when melted. It tastes like salty cheese-flavored goo.

'Pasteurized, processed cheese food'. Very little real cheese is in Velveeta.

    ON EDIT: INGREDIENTS:

Milk, water, milkfat, whey, whey protein concentrate, sodium phosphate, milk protein concentrate, alginate, sodium citrate, apocarotenal (color), annatto (color), enzymes, cheese culture.

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks Velveeta, or any other 'pasteurized, processed cheese food' is cheese, has never had real cheese.

    it is processed cheese

it actually has real cheese in it, but has been preserved to be shelf stable, and does have a strong cheesey taste.
