Please order these for me from MOST LIKELY to LEAST LIKELY (Why one takes a religion?)?

1. Geographical circumstance (born in US, Christian...born in Iraq, Muslim, etc)

2. Indoctrination from a young age

3. Fear of death

4. Fear of hell or other post-death circumstance

5. Lack of Education

6. Limited intellectual reserves

7. Extreme guilt based on actions in real life

8. Mental illness

Update:

For clarity...i don't believe in any religion...not a one...the hundreds from the past, the handful of currently popular teams, and I have my suspicions that I will not see one in my short lifetime that I will believe in. Atheism is not a religion. God may well exist. Based on the the fact that we have not ONE shred of evidence supporting any religion that has ever existed it is very likely that "God" (if he she it exists) defies all attempts to define thus far.

    I don't think you're being serious.

    I personally believe in my religion because it makes sense to me, and is supported by other religions.

    It's called a hypothesis.

    Also, you're referring to the stereotypical 'normal" Christian or Muslim, and not taking into account conversions and intellectuals within it.

    And in fact, mentally ill people could not comprehend such a complex idea as religion. or any other philosophy for that matter.

    To be loved. To have your sins forgiven. To know God and His will. Eternal life. Fellowship with other believers. Blessing the less fortunate. Guidance by the Holy Spirit. Peace, love, grace, mercy, hope and joy. There...that's MY "8".
