Compaq Presario Start up problems?
I have a compaq Presario, that is about a year and a half old now. From day one, it will boot up and be locked up. The only way to boot it is to turn it off by the button and try again, sometimes takes 3 times. Right now, I am just leaving it on all of the time and just log off. I sent it back to HP, they restored it to out of the box condition. I set it up again, and it did the same thing. I then purchased an extended warranty from Best Buy and took it back to them. The had it for about 3 days, scanned and checked and the only thing they found was a patch from HP that I didn't get on it. Brought it home, it was ok for a couple of months, then started again. Now it is to the point where I am afraid to shut it down, afraid I cannot get it to boot again. I am going to take it back to Best Buy again, but in the meantime, does anyone have any idea what this could be, or have one with a similar problem with the same computer. Alt+C trl+delete has never worked on this computer.
I am using Kaspersky. I don't have enough on my computer to even require that it be defragged. Hp wiped it clean and sent it back. Same problem. Registry is ok, not much there. It's running cool even though I am leaving it on all of the time now. Kaspersky scans clean. HP techie took it over when I first started using it and they blacklisted my Kaspersky and until I could fix it which was a matter of seconds, I got a couple of viruses and a couple of trojans but Kaspersky took them out. Since then it has scanned cleaned except for a few minor things, it finds nothing. Don't have hardly anything stored in the computer except a few pictures. It has perfomed this way since I got it, it will start to boot up, but won't boot all the way, then it is locked up. Task Manager will not work when that happens either.

When you sent in to HP and best buy did by chance install a fresh copy of Windows? The only thing I can suggest is re-installing Windows with formatting! Meaning booting from installation cd. If that is not something you want to try I would then suggest you DL Advanced System Care 5 and use the free trial, run the check disk for errors utility and when prompted to reboot allow it to check your disk for errors and attempt to fix bad sectors! Also use it to clean and fix registry. Tune-up Utilities is also a great program for this sort of thing and has a fully functional 30 day trial. If that does not work I am guessing you have a shoddy hard drive. Hope this helps! Let me know, I will check back..
Also, uninstall all the pre-installed hp programs, mostly they are useless bloatware.. And as THAT GUY stated, use msconfig to stop un-needed programs from starting at bootup, ASC5 and Tune-up Utilities and CCleaner all allow you to control what programs start at bootup!

It sounds like something is causing an instability in the operating system. try going to the run option and typing in "msconfig" this will get you to the startup menu from there you can control what starts up you will nee to minimize your start up options. what virus program do you have? look into c-cleaner( use the piraform option) its a free download that will help clean up your registries. Also try malware bytes its an anti malware program they will both run in an on demand function ( meaning they will not run on their own unless you want them to) and only have one virus program in your computer running at a time, running more than one will cause a HUGE instability.

Get rid of Bloatware they load on new pc's.
Uninstall Kaspersky - like Norton, it is just too much for some pc's.
Try Microsoft Security Essentials.
