If Private School vouchers were adopted, would those private schools be willing to accept these conditions to?

ensure accountability?

The achievement score tests of every student who receives an educational voucher to attend a private school will be kept and averaged. Private schools that fail to equal or exceed the achievement scores of publicly funded schools must return all voucher funds to the state. In addition -to prevent cherry picking by private school administrators- students who are expelled from private schools and returned to the public school system for whatever reason will remain on the public school's average scores roster and be counted as a test score of zero.

Update:

"equal or exceed the mean achievement scores..." typo

Update 2:

@ gunwalker - you're pretty much addressing the same point I am - that private schools create an artificial environment where those that do not achieve for whatever reason are cast aside. Public school teachers have to live in the real world where you have to accept everyone no matter what they bring with them.

Update 3:

@ DAVIS - while I'm sure what you say is true at some elite private schools where the children of very wealthy parents go at a tuition of $40,000+ per year, I assure you that such conditions would never apply to any "McPrivate School" model that would sprout up to serve a majority of the population.

    Some will some won't.

"Private schools are better" is only true of those that actually release their data. Most don't. The only incentive for that is to hide how poor they are doing.

    Edit:

"Private schools don't rely on the government for anything do why would they accept this?"

Complete and utter lie. You don't realize how much government assistance private schools actually receive. Even religious ones receive money. The only catch is they can't use that money to teach religion.

Wow, I never heard Romney called a -Jew- before. 8^)

We had a ballot initiative here in California to create a voucher system. It failed, and the ran it again, the same initiative. And it failed again.

I read the whole bill through, just out of curiosity. The proponents said they wanted private and public schools to play on a level playing field but there were three huge inequalities between public and private schools.

First of all, public schools would be still have to hire only certified people as teachers and pay them the going rate, while private schools could hire just anyone and pay them whatever they'd take. This was supposedly to allow Catholic parochial schools to hire nuns and pay them nothing. But you and I know there would be a class of super-cheap private schools that hired dregs.

Secondly, public schools had to accept only the voucher amount, while private schools could charge whatever they could get over and above the voucher amount. So there would tiers of private schools, from crappy and cheap to excellent and expensive. And the Republican Education Dream would come true--kids would get just as good an education as their parents could afford. So when the children of the well-to-do graduated, they wouldn't have to compete with the rabble for the few good jobs that will be available then.

Thirdly, private schools could cherry-pick while public schools had to take all applicants. Which your point addresses.

Yeah, that could be the fly in the ointment for voucher schools. On the other hand, consider a really good private school that's already successful today. Whatever they charge parents, the voucher amount will simply be added! If they lose a student and have to repay the voucher amount, they still have the other money, which is what they're already making today!

While I think some of your conditions, (particularly the last one "for whatever reason will remain on the public school's average scores roster and be counted as a test score of zero.") are a tad extreme, the overall objective seems sound.

I hope you understand that even before this voucher issue was introduced, private schools have very strict accountability rules. Teachers are encouraged to make their students understand content more, since if they don't they'll get automatically fired(the concept of tenure or immunity to firing is generally absent in most private schools). The same goes with students, since their tests scores, on average, affect their actual performance since most private schools have a profound lack of any grading curve or grade inflation device.

Although there might need to be *some* new rules for private schools, I can say from first hand experience they work well enough on their own.

Why do you hate kids so much? Are you that heartless?

No. No private school is going to accept those conditions and you yourself set out the reasons why.

"Private schools that fail to equal or exceed the achievement " followed by "to prevent cherry picking".

If they can't or won't learn then they are a detriment to the class that will drag down or disrupt the rest of them. Then at the same time you put all these conditions on private schools but refuse to do the same for public schools?

    Essentially you're stacking the deck.

How about if you look at it this way??? You probably won't understand this because A) you don't have children and B) you've never paid property, state, federal and city taxes that pay for schools-

Let's let the parents decide where to put THEIR money for THEIR child's education.

You know what? It's people like you who are the problem in this country.

No. All schools receiving vouchers or other government money should have the same legal requirements:

    1. Enroll every student applying, regardless of ability, race, gender, religion, disability, etc.

    2. Meet the same curriculum requirements.

    3. Act according to the legally acceptable discipline practices.

    4. Allow parents to dictate student placement or to require the school to provide the program of their choice.

    5. Exercise no more authority over parents and students than public schools have in terms of accountability.

    ETC.

Private schools have the ultimate accountability system. PARENTS TAKE THEIR KIDS OUT OF THE SCHOOL if they don't learn.

Public schools have NO ACCOUNTABILITY. They get paid no matter how lousy they do.

Being able to expel disruptive students is what makes private schools better. Public schools are not allowed to reject students, so there are gremlins running around the school disrupting the learning environment for the students who are trying to learn.

I worked as a public school teacher, so I have an informed opinion on this subject.

    Apparently you don't.

that's an thrilling spin on concern. I even have long gone lower back and forth on the voucher concern. various of my nieces and nephews bypass to very own college, so of course I even have epidermis interior the game. That suggested, between the final components u . s . has is public training... unfastened get right of entry to to absolutely everyone thrilling in studying, regardless of their mothers and fathers earnings bracket. and style of like public investment for roads and bridges is socialist, all of us would desire to guarantee a minimum point of education for the paintings tension to proceed to be aggressive globally. i might help the creation of vouchers goodbye because it does not undermine the known public education device. and that i help absolutely everyone, presidential or no longer, employing their very own money to offer something diverse. i do no longer think of that the city could pay for neat, particularly professional highway symptoms for a undeniable community, yet whilst your pals choose to advance money for some fake bronze highway symptoms celebrating your historic importance - choose for it. The strangest concern to me is that a minimum of 30% of education could ensue interior the abode. the biggest concern is that oldsters do no longer take very own duty for their youngster's rounded eduction and toss them at a college device - waiting for it to advance, prepare, and babysit their toddlers for them. in case you paintings hard and prevail, then you particularly've earned the nicely suited to deliver your toddlers to the two public or inner maximum college.

The private schools will just raise their tuition by the value of the vouchers, as they have done in the past.

Satellite schools do far better in educating our kids for 1/3 the cost of public schools . Stossel proved it. They don't expel kids. They punish them and they return to class. The teachers are watched and coached throughout each class. The students absolutely love school.
