Why do police dogs attack the wrong people?
This morning someone posted about why police don't use pit bulls for police & Military. We got replys they are unpredictable & stupid. (Seem the police dogs are plagued with the same malady.) Then I got curious & typed "Attacks by police dogs" and Low & behold! there are articles about police dogs going berserk and attacking the wrong people.!Before you answer this. I urge you to research. And then come back here & tell us your thoughts.
Pit bulls jaw DO NOT Lock! please do your research. The locking jaws is a "Myth."
Sadie, they use pit bulls for search & rescue & drug detecting. And hunting as well. So, you need a better answer then that.
Come on people! You need to "RESEARCH" and then come back & answer. I don't think opinions are important. You guys have a lot to say about pit bull attacks. The unprovoked attack on a postal worker & a child at a parade is testament to how great police dogs are, that they smarter & always obey. (NOT!) And there is MORE! Go type in Police dogs attack wrong person! In your computers search engines.

Once again, the very worst trainers on the planet come out of the Military and Police ranks. When you have people who cannot correctly select a dog and then train that dog properly...what else can you say? I have been around this field for 32 plus years, I know what works and what does not, I know who, where, why and when and I can tell you that its NOT pretty. Hope I helped.

It relies upon on the attacker, the wide-unfold of weapon, the attitude of attack, the area of the can charge, or maybe whether this is gentle out. actual a knowledgeable canines will shop going even while injured, yet a canines won't be able to bodily shop going upon getting a around to the suggestions or dropping too lots blood. If the "attacker" has 5 seconds, a funky head, and is conscious the place to place a bullet, the canines is ineffective and so are you. there is not any protection that works one hundred% of the time - a knowledgeable human risk-free practices shield could be gunned down in simple terms like a canines could be gunned down. A canines this is charging a undesirable guy is working in a in the present day line, in the present day in the direction of the attacker, head first. No canines is invincible. A knowledgeable PPD against your uncomplicated burglar, mugger, or gang-banger will possibly a minimum of purchase you the time to flee, yet against a team of attackers or somebody with self-protection, police, or militia preparation i flow to call it a draw at ultimate, if for no different reason the actuality that a smart "undesirable guy" will verify the area and positioned a bullet interior the canines's head long in the previous you even understand they're there.

I did a Google search on the key words you've given for the past month. "attacks by police dogs"
Honestly, I see more "Pit bull attacks police dog" than a legitimate police dog attacking the wrong person. In fact, in the 2 pages I briefly viewed, it's more like law firms cashing in on police dog bites and loose Pit bulls attacking police dogs than police dogs attacking the wrong person. There's also a sad number of Pit bull attacks on innocent people and pets in the search.
So after reading your question, I have to ask, "Why have you posted this as a question?" Did you really do a Google search and find this out? I'm seeing something totally different than what you claim in your question.
So my results of the 2 pages I've browsed are mostly Pit bull attacks on other dogs and humans.
Without reading the 2 pages of links, I see that there were:
8 Pit bull attacks on people and other dogs.
2 Police dog attacks (One attack was from a retired police dog)
Understand that police dogs are trained to bite. They are trained and comfortable with chasing down, grabbing, and holding a criminal. Also, we have to figure in the frequency a police dog is used and the percentage of the dog going after the wrong person.
Personally, I train my dogs to no bite as should every normal household. Only idiots train their dogs to "protect" themselves or their property. Unless you're a trained professional, you should never ever attempt to train your dog to attack people.
*****
In addition, I just read an article about a police dog that was attacked and killed by a Pit bull on December 14, 2011. The police dog had worked almost 350 cases an has helped capture many criminals only to have his career stopped by a Pit bull.
So what was your question again?

Never anthropomorphize an animal. They do not know who is at fault.
The dog was not trained properly, perhaps the trainer did not use the effective operant conditioning But I believe that the behaviours that police dogs preform will never be a controlled stimulus. Stimulus control is the phenomenon of a stimulus increasing the probability of a behaviour (operant response) because of a history of that behaviour being differentially reinforced in the presence of the stimulus. In other words, stimulus control is basically learning to pay attention to things that we identify in the environment (discriminative stimuli) that give us information about the effectiveness of our behaviour: what behaviour is likely to be effective or ineffective, under which conditions, and what the behaviour gives us (reinforcement or punishment). Therefore, in the presence of those stimuli dogs are likely to respond differentially.
I have trained many dangerous animals, but I do not believe in the use of police dogs. It is my personal opinion. You can never actually train a dog to attack the right person, unless a very clear vocal command or signal is given. Ultimately, they are animals. Like all, they are unpredictable.

Why do police dogs attack the wrong people? Who knows?
Just like people, dogs are not infallible.
Even the police don`t have the answers.

because cops are minimally educated, power-hungry men with no real dog training skills ... the dogs are trained to attack people and without proper handling that is what they do regardless of whether it is the suspect or not ... there was a shooting near my building and three police officers and a dog (german shepherd) on the sidewalk investigating ... i walked by with my dog and it took two grown men all they could to control that dog from going after my dog and myself ... the third cop was so nervous (just what you want, men armed to the **** and they are nervous) that he tried to pick up my dog "to protect" he said ... my dog sidestepped him and i just kept walking but if that is any indication of how cop dogs are trained, it is scary ...

They dont use pitbulls cause there jaws lock when they bite and they dont have as good of noses as shepherds .shepherd are good cause the have one of the best noses they run fast and are smart and it dont think its very often they bite the wrong people as they are trained to let go and a officer usually has them on a leash unless he lets them ok to attack

I don't see how this is any of your business. Unless you chase ambulances for a living.
