Is it ok to contact a recruiter if there number is unlisted?

my friend and I applied for a position with a large local health care facility. She got an email saying they want to set up an interview. Is ok for me to call the number they gave her to check the status of my application? I know for a fact they have multiple openings for this position.

Doing that would hurt BOTH of you. She should not give out the number to you. That is a private communication between the recruiter and her and I bet that there is even a liability disclosure at the bottom of the e-mail saying that it is confidential between the sender and the receiver. If they find out that you got the number through her, then her chances could be over.

It is ok for you to call the general number of the company and ask for the HR department, then inquire about the status of your application.
