faulty sensor in canon dslr?

I have a Canon Eos 350D and it is taking compleatly black or very underexposed pictures, is this a faulty CMOS Sensor? I had this problem when I first bought the camera and the sensor was replaced. The camera is now about 6 years old and it seems like the same problem I had before. This has been an intermittant problem for sometime, the camera will take a few pictures fine but then very dark or black ones again.

My gut feel is that the failing sensor is a symptom of the real problem, not the problem itself. Could be some other component is faulty and that is knocking out the sensor.

When you have something old then you have a dilemma when it breaks. Repair it or replace it.

I work on the principle that any item (be it car, washing machine or camera) can present me with one big bill. Then it goes. Your 350D has reached the end of the line!

Can we have a look at a few sample images? If there is a little bit of variation across the frame then it's the either the mirror or the shutter. If it's an even fault then the sensor or processor could be problematic.

Regardless of what this is, the cost of repair (around £150-200) will almost certainly be more than the value of this camera (around £120-150).

Sounds like a sticky shutter to me. Sensor problems tend to manifest in banding or other strange artifacts.

count on it being an economic write off and start looking for a gently used 450d. List the 350d as faulty on ebay and it can still fetch $50-$100.
