Is she overprotective or is it in my head?

I am 13 years old and mature for my age.

Lately, I have been spending more time in my room, reading. As a result, I see less of my family. Whenever I do come out of my room for say, dinner, My mother talks to me like I am a six year old (in word choice and voice pitch). I used to be able to go to the store which is about a mile from my house by myself with no questions asked, but now my mom insists I wear a helmet and take her phone with me. This really p*sses me off (don't know if that is censored). As a result, I spend more and more time in my room. As a result of this, my mom does the annoying stuff more and more. I tried spending more time outside to see if it reverses, but it only got worse.

Is she being overprotective or is in my head?

Regardless of the answer, please tell me which part of my question tipped you off.

The part that tipped me off is that she speaks to you like you are someone half your age and you need to wear a helmet and take a phone with you to the store! She is totally being overprotective. Do you have any siblings? If you don't, then she probably wants to raise you really good, since she doesn't have any others to take care of. Why don't you sit her down and say "Mum, I'm not a baby any more, I am 13. i don't need to wear a helmet or take your phone, and please don't talk to me like I am a baby! I do love you very much, but I am growing up!"

    Good luck :)

She is being overprotective, but some parents are just like that. Please tell me that your on a bike or skateboard or something else when she makes you wear a helmet, because if you are just walking, that's actually hilarious.

The phone is reasonable though, youre 13 years old and mature, but things happen. Bad things can happen regardless of age. And just think of it this way, she's protective because she cares. better to have a protective and caring mother than one who could care less.

She still looks at you as her little baby and does not want you to grow up. She just loves you and tries to keep you innocent.
