Do you have to be 17 to buy an R-rated DVD?

I've always been lead to believe its 17, since that's when you can see an R rated movie in the theater, but now some people are telling me it's 18. If you can see it in the theater, why wouldn't you be able to buy it?

You can... if no one asks you for ids... and even if you have the tickets, you then have to get by the people (staff) who collects them before you enter the theatre. If they don't ask, you have no problem. But you the do get asked, you are out of luck and probably will be escorted out... in other words, you'll be kicked out without a refund. SO you'll loose your money.... It's a risk you have to take to find out... just remember the saying, "Curiousity killed the cat" gl

r rated means you have to be over 18, although people never really check.

you might be confused with 18A which means you can watch or buy it "legally" if your 15-17 years old and accompanied by an adult.
