Does anyone still use PULSE dialing on landline phones?
I noticed all phones have a switch or menu option to "pulse". Don't most people use touch tone nowadays? For those that DO still rely on pulse is it to save money (not pay for touch tone service if your phone company charges extra for that) or is it the area you live in only has that option?
I had loaned someone a corded landline phone cause of bad wiring in house causing electrical outlet. The switch accidently got switched to pulse....so I wondered if anyone still actually uses that setting?
I also have a rotary phone but its not hooked up and probably not even working anymore. I didn't think companies still charged for "tone" service unless maybe they paid for each call instead of a flat rate and that tone service was still implemented. I figured anyone who did still use pulse lived in the boonies with bad phone service or old fashioned lines or something.
But phones still have the pulse option even cordless caller id phones have it in the menu options but i wondered WHY. Even for those who still use rotary phones I didnt know if the other person needs pulse dialing to call them.
Maybe future phones will no longer have the option cause it is annoying when the setting or switch is accidentally switched to pulse.
even a lot of people are dumping landlines all together for cell phones and others use VOiP and cable service for house phone

most new phone services are not even compatible with pulse dialing, such as VoIP, or digital phone service provided by cable companies..
the only service that still is compatible with pulse dialing is traditional land line phone service..
most land line providers no longer charge extra for touch tone service - even though it was a benefit for the phone companies to implement DTMF dialing, they still charged customers for the "convenience"
i do not know of anyone who purposefully has their phone set to pulse dial - most of the time when i come across a phone that is set to pulse it was done so accidentally..
EDIT - they do sell pulse to tone converters to allow you to use your old rotary phone with modern telephone systems that do not work with pulse dialing...

I think most telephone providers today do not even charge for touch tone service anymore. There are a few people out there that like the old rotary dial phones just as a conversations piece.

Usual there is a small slide switch on the bottom or occasionally on the back of the phone. It will be marked Tone/T and Pulse/P; simply slide it to the Tone/T position.
