what's the point of school if experience is all that matters?

A degree matters... bank tellers don't need degree... if u have one, u don't wanna b a bank teller...

Because a degree in finance qualifies you for a lot more than bank teller jobs. If your goal is to get a job that doesn't require a degree, then getting a college degree would be a bad choice. If you want to work in a bank in a job like as a financial analyst or a financial adviser, those kinds of jobs are not going to go to someone with 6 months of cash handling experience at McDonalds. Experience matters, but for jobs like that, you need a degree to qualify you for any of the jobs where you could get the experience.

I don't see where "experience is all that matters." All I see is that experience is one thing that is important, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that applicants to banks have cash handling experience. Plus, we don't know in what other ways the successful applicant and the applicant with the Finance degree differ. (Is it possible that the unsuccessful applicant has never held *any* job for more than a couple of months?) Just because education is not the only relevant factor doesn't make it irrelevant.

Today they want you to be able to use many different systems and count less on live cashiers.

my bank used to have 6 tellers 8 on friday and Sat.

now if they have three at peak times working part time you're lucky.

Yeah but what if you get fired then your expirence is useless.
