13 AnswersPhilosophy7 years agoGood Economy and Bad Government?
Hello everyone. I was wondering if there were some examples of states from any time period that simultaneously had a good economy, but a poorly ran government or vice-versa. It seems like politics in reality is all about money, so I'm starting to think that politics should be a sub category for Economics.
1 AnswerGovernment8 years agoMax Weber's Economy and Society?
I'm trying to understand a certain passage in his work, but I have no idea what he's trying to say:
"On the other hand processes or conditions, whether they are animate or
inanimate, human or non-human, are in the present sense devoid of
meaning in so far as they cannot be related to an intended purpose. That
is to say they are devoid of meaning if they cannot be related to action
in the role of means or ends but constitute only the stimulus, the favoring
or hindering of circumstances."
It seems like everything except accidents can be related to an intended meaning. Are any of you familiar with Weber's work?

1 AnswerPhilosophy8 years agoWhat does it mean to treat someone with respect?
What if your idea of respect is to say "good morning" when you meet someone in the morning, and my idea is to just leave this person alone because it's early and I figure they don't want to be bothered because that's usually how I feel and I'm treating another the way I would want to be treated.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIs it wrong to treat others the way we would want to be treated?
It actually seems very selfish when you think about it.What if they absolutely despise the way we would want to be treated.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWhat does fair mean to you?
I don't mean like someones looks or some type of gathering, I'm talking about a "that isn't fair" situation. I'm trying to figure out why some people can do "good" and still fail, while other people can do "bad" and come out on top

9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoI'm confused about Capitalism?
I've been watching a couple of videos on youtube that talk about Capitalism and the ideal Capitalism sounds great. Everyone is an individual and creates their own wealth without intrusion upon their fellow man, but can that actually work in reality?

8 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups9 years agoIf the media is owned by only a few groups how can you escape their grasp?
I was learning in my management class how the media is controlled by like 6 groups, and what we see on tv is what they want us to see, which makes me wonder is their really anything that doesn't benefit their cause in some way or another.
All of the books that come out and magazines that are supposed to support free thinking, could just be some of the things that the big groups let out to keep the citizens that want to "rebel" in check.

When someone who has 6 months of cash handling experience is more qualified to work at a bank than someone with a degree in Finance I question the relevance of a degree
