If the media is owned by only a few groups how can you escape their grasp?

I was learning in my management class how the media is controlled by like 6 groups, and what we see on tv is what they want us to see, which makes me wonder is their really anything that doesn't benefit their cause in some way or another.

All of the books that come out and magazines that are supposed to support free thinking, could just be some of the things that the big groups let out to keep the citizens that want to "rebel" in check.

That is like saying that I am addicted to tobacco and I wonder how I can stop this.

The answer is replace that addiction with another which by the way can simply be a habit of thought.

For example in my case I easily was able to quit smoking after more than ten years by looking at the addiction as being something which was controlling me and leaving me a slave to it. No way was I going to put up with that and so Bob was my uncle, overnight.

I agree with your statements. I feel that the only way to get away from the media is to ignore it. I don't read magazines unless i intend to purchases something, or maybe learn more about one specific thing.

I don't watch tv, or go on heavily advertised cites, but cites like youtube, can be your media instead. While the information isn't impartial, it is 1 step further away from the media that is so set on controlling what we are. If you're really afraid of them you could always become a part of anonymous.

Source(s): I know about media control from my English class. I have written several papers on the topic.

There is actually still a mechanism in place for correction, (at least for the

broacast media), but you'd need to gather a group to react appropriately.

Those 'News' broadcasts are 'public service time' required of broadcasters

to keep their licenses, and they are periodically reviewed, with public

    comment requested.

Complaining that they are mis-using that time will get attention.

    ie:

    * Media events are not 'News' but self promotion.

    * We only need to hear the weather once

    * Why is the latest 'celeb' going into rehab more important

than our 'boots on the ground' overseas as 'News'?
