God takes the rib from Adam to create Eve? What exactly does it say in that story? What is the translation of that particular instance.

I made a translation from Daat Mikra (דעת מקרא), page 66 (סו).

Genesis 2 21: And God put a deep sleep over the Adam [man] and he slept, and he took *one of his ribs* [Achat MiTzal'otav] and he closed flesh *under it* [or instead of it].

Achat MiTzal'otav - In all of the Tanach [Hebrew Bible] Tzela [singular, without property suffix of Tzal'otav] (Tzadi with Tzere) comes in reference to construction as a meaning of an architecture term, and that's why the word 'and he built' come here, as there's in the near verse. And Onkelos [Jewish translator of the Torah to Aramaic from about 2000 years ago] translated here 'Tzela' as in the latter language: a rib that protrudes from the spinal cord.

    ---------------------

[me saying] So either Tzela means a side or a rib. It also tells here that some old Jewish scholars say that Adam had 2 faces and/or that he was some kind of a Siamese twins. That fits with the translation of 'side'.
