For Fellow Christians Only...?

What do you think or know that our soul is or consist of ? Biblical backup is most welcome. Thank you in advance.

Update:

I agree that our soul consist of our will, our emotions, our intellect and our mind...All those things that need the Grace of God and salvation in order to be Christlike in those things that guide our walk in life...As for some of the other comments, I did ask for Fellow Christians Only and your need to comment and your choice of words only validated that some are in need for the Grace of God and Salvation of the soul...Also Mr. Buddist Man, Jesus was a grown man when He was baptized and I cannot speak for the parents of an infant or young child and why they felt in their heart they needed to have their loved one baptized in Holy Water at such a young age...All I know is what you consider was being forced was not harmful to their body or soul.

I would say that the soul is the seat of our consciousness. The Greek word for soul is "psuche" from which we get the word "psyche". I believe it is our conscious mind, emotions, and our will. As such, I believe that it is primarily a function of our brain activity since our mind, will, and emotions are impacted by the introduction of drugs and alcohol, and that is because these substances affect the brain. But at the same time, the soul seems to transcend the brain as well, since it is spoken of as eternal.

The soul stands in contrast to our spirit, which is that part of us that is the energizing force behind our mind, will, and emotions. Jesus compared the spirit with the wind in John 3:8, i.e., an invisible force that is able to exert great power.

Scripture seems to be lacking on giving us a firm definition of the soul. About the best we can do is to interpolate what is meant by the term when read it. The bible also uses the term "heart" seemingly interchangeably to denote our inner person as well.

A soul – in certain spiritual, philosophical, and psychological traditions – is the incorporeal essence of a person, living thing or object.[1] Many philosophical and spiritual systems teach that humans have souls, and others teach that all living things and even inanimate objects (such as rivers) have souls. The latter belief is commonly called animism.[2] Soul can function as a synonym for spirit, mind or self;[3] scientific works, in particular often consider soul as a synonym for mind.

From my church, the LDS church, there's a doctrine that the spirit IS consisted of matter:

"There is no such thing as immaterial matter. All spirit is matter, but it is more fine or pure, and can only be discerned by purer eyes;"

    Doctrince & Covenants 131:7

So the way I see it, the spirit is matter, but a matter than doesn't exist in our.....um.....for lack of a better word, realm.

Here's another quote from the prophet Joseph Smith (this is for educational purposes, I'm not trying to preach to you or anything, this is all from the standpoint of the Mormon faith and from the view of a fellow Christian):

"There is no such thing as immaterial matter. All spirit is matter, but it is more fine or pure, and can only be discerned by purer eyes; we cannot see it; but when our bodies are purified we shall see that it is all matter" - Joseph Smith

    And another quote:

"Matter and spirit are the two great principles of all existence. Everything animate and inanimate is composed of one or the other, or both of these eternal principles…. Matter and spirit are of equal duration; both are self-existent, they never began to exist, and they never can be annihilated…. Matter as well as spirit is eternal, uncreated, self existing. However infinite the variety of its changes, forms and shapes; …eternity is inscribed in indelible characters on every particle"

    - Parley P. Pratt HC 4:55

all we know about our soul is that it's the spiritual part of us. When God breathed life into Adam, He put His spiritual image in him, a soul.

The bible does not talk about anything like that. Its electrical signals once the body dies they stop.

It's not a material object; that question doesn't work.
