I think I've discovered a new mathematical formula, what now?

Hello,

I was answering some math homework questions on yahoo. One of them was a bit more challenging and got me interested in similar problems related to the question. After a few pages of calculations I suddenly had a eureka moment and wrote down a formula which I couldn't find anywhere on the internet. It calculates the surface of regular polygons. I found one formula on the internet that does so, but my formula requires way less data.

My question is: what should I do with it? Í've never had a real scientific discovery before so I feel a little lost. I'm not going to tell just anyone but at the same time I want to know if it is indeed new and correct.

Update:

Edit: surface means area.

@Robertmathmanjones no, I really mean a polygon. I checked it 3 times. A polygon is 2-dimensional and a polyhedron is 3-dimensional

Update 2:

Edit: surface means area.

FIRST thing is to COPYWRIGHT IT.

Then find the smartest person you trust and ask them.

One note. You mean Surface Area of a Polyhedra (not polygon).

    GOOD LUCK

    A PRESENT FOR YOU

Ask someone to write a number, say a five-digit number.

    (Can be a 2-digit.....3-digit.....4-digit....ect..…

    Suppose the number written is

    57836

Now, without showing the asker, you write a number on

a sheet of paper and keep it folded. You have to write the

number by subtracting 2 from the above number and

adding 2 in front which will be....

    257834

Next, ask the person to write another five-digit number

below his original number. Suppose he writes 37589.

    So you now have...

    57836

    37589

Now you write a five-digit number below it in such a

way that each digit is 9 minus digit above. You now have...

    57836

    37589

    62410

Ask the person to add one more 5-digit number. If he

adds 54732, you add below it 45267. Note that you decided

the number by subtracting each of his digit from 9.

    Thus, you now have.....

    57836

    37589

    62410

    54732

    45267

Next, ask him to add all the number and he gets 257834

Show him the number which you had written as an answer

to this addition earlier in the folded paper and surprise him.

Test your formula on lots of different polygons and make sure it works right every time.

Compare it to other formulas you've seen to make sure it's not just the same formula in disguise.

try taling with your teacher about it. if he thinks you have something, he can inform the principal and he will inform his superiors. eneventually, youll have some scientist checking it
